Function
We are seeking a skilled Research Technical Specialist to join the Bioenergetics and Neurometabolism department at Dasman Diabetes Institute. The successful candidate will support ongoing research activities, manage laboratory operations, and conduct advanced experiments contributing to diabetes research.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily laboratory operations, including oversight of equipment maintenance, supply ordering, and compliance to internal and external regulatory standards.
- Handle and care for laboratory animals (rodents), ensuring ethical and compliant procedures.
- Conduct cell and molecular biology experiments such as Western blotting, RNA and DNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, and flow cytometry (FACS).
- Perform histology, immunofluorescence, microscopy, and image analysis.
- Maintain and culture immortalized and primary cell lines, ensuring sterility and viability.
- Handle human biological samples and associated data, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with ethical standards.
- Participate actively in experimental design, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Collaborate with team members and contribute to scientific publications, presentations, and grant applications.
Required Skills and Expertise:
- Proficiency in laboratory management and animal care.
- Strong practical skills in molecular biology techniques (Western blot, PCR, RNA/DNA isolation, flow cytometry).
- Experience in histological techniques and imaging (immunofluorescence microscopy).
- Competence in handling and processing human samples and managing associated data ethically.
- Ability to independently manage projects, maintain accurate records, and effectively communicate research findings.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications:
· Master's degree or higher in biomedical sciences or a related field.
Experience:
· 1-5 years of relevant laboratory experience.
· Demonstrated expertise in animal handling, cell culture, molecular biology, and histological techniques.
Background and experience in metabolic disease research preferred
