Function
Provide Excellence in diabetes management through Clinical, Research & Education/ Training Services, and through current knowledge and evidence-based information to health care professionals, patients and families. Develop and implement nutritional guidance to the public on awareness of good nutrition. Train teachers from Ministry of Education. Supervise; monitor and quality assure all activities provided by members of the department. Lead, participate or sit on a number of institutional committees. Liaise with external universities, institutes, and international nutrition bodies to better develop nutritional services.
Responsibilities
Supervisory Responsibilities
Responsible to lead and supervise the Nutrition department.
- Develop and write research proposals, implement and execute research, studies or trials as a primary investigator or collaborate with other researchers internally, nationally or internationally.
- Design programs, develop, teach and train healthcare professionals on different nutritional curricular.
- Develop and supervise development of educational material.
- Design group nutritional management education sessions, deliver and/or train nutritionist and dietitians on standardized delivery of programs.
- Provide clinical services using Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) in a one-on-one clinical set-up and patient counseling.
- Design, implement, deliver and/ or train personnel on delivery of nutrition public health campaigns in schools, in-house, and other outreach activities.
- Liaise with international bodies on developing clinical nutrition, nutrition education, nutrition research and raising nutrition awareness programs.
- Supervise Master’s students and interns.
- Sit on different committees to work on serving the institute’s mission.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the institution and adhere to all DDI’s related policies, standards, procedures, and safety measures.
- Encourage and lead the unit’s active involvement in research activities, including publishing articles and manuscripts in newsletters and reputable journals, and the participation and delivery of poster and/or oral presentations at national/regional/international conferences/meetings.
- Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate the unit staff, interns, and volunteers.
- Prepare and approve the Nutrition Unit’s annual budget, procurement plans, workplans, and manpower plans and provide this to higher management with the required quarterly and annual reports.
- Direct and mentor unit staff and foster a healthy and open work environment by encouraging career growth and staff development.
- Create and review unit policies and procedures.
Required Skills and Expertise:
- A minimum of 5 years of related experience in a similar organization
- Published in peer reviewed, high impact journals
- Experience in research and clinical investigations
- Teaching skills, communication in Arabic and English (for healthcare professionals)
- Ability to simplify complex nutrition concepts in layman’s terminology to the public, and media
- Leadership, critical thinking, problem solving
- Current membership of professional associations for nutrition is desirable
