Function
A key role within the Genome Informatics Group to work in close liaison with Dasman’s IT group to administer the high-end computer clusters, storage servers, and network services that serve the Genome Centre. Your main area of expertise will be in managing the computer hardware and software systems in the context of highthroughput genomics technologies
Responsibilities
- Carries out a wide range of System Administration activities pertaining to the computing and storage resources of the Genome Centre.
- Works in close liaison with the IT group in planning, organizing, implementing, and managing the computing/storage clusters and network facilities for the Genome Technologies.
- Administers clusters of highend computing machines, web servers, database servers, terminal servers and petabytes storage servers, and networks of high bandwidth.
- Interacts with both the Informatics and Experimental personnel of Dasman Genome Centre in managing the data & software resources for the Genomics highthroughput data.
- Participates in all efforts leading to data integrations arising from both within and outside of Genome Centre.
- Provides technical expertise (from computer resources context) in developing workflows and analysis pipelines for NGS projects.
- Assist in selection of compatible software and data resources.
- Adhere to all research center related policies and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Expertise:
Master degree in Computing Systems or Bioinformatics.
Experience in handling large computing clusters, storage servers, cluster networks, web servers, log-on servers, database servers, and high-speed network configurations. The computing environment would include both linux and windows servers.
Knowledge of SAN and NAS nets is positively valued.
Knowledge of programming scripting languages, mainly perl, php, bash shell in general) and java.
Experience as administrator of technologies such as Apache/TomCat, NFS, MySql, and PNFS/CFIS.
Knowledge of administration and implementation of virtual settings.
