Function
To provide a timely and efficient system for the sterilization and exchange of medical and surgical instruments used for clinical activities in-line with infection control guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Ensures all instruments used for clinical activities are cleaned and sterilized in compliance with infection control guidelines.
- Ensures instruments are processed and returned to the clinical areas in a timely manner.
- Logs all instruments delivered from and returned to the units.
- Communicates and interacts efficiently with all clinical departments to ensure a smooth running of sterilization systems & reports problems in a timely manner.
- Is aware of expected clinical standards and ensures correct functioning of all cleaning and sterilizing equipment through daily and weekly monitoring activities.
- Reports any equipment malfunction in a timely manner to minimize interruption in service.
- Participates in quality improvement programs to improve practice.
