Function
The biostatistician helps to ensure that research project proposals have a sound bio-statistical base and are capable of answering the public health and genetic research questions they are designed to respond to.
Responsibilities
- Designs and implements bio-statistical analysis, helps to interpret results of epidemiological and clinical studies
- Helps to develop collaborative research methods
- Interacts with a wide range of DDI consortia and supports inter- disciplinary research
- Prepares statistical profiles and helps to prepare strategic plans, proposals and progress reports
- Participates in project teams and committees
- Applies bio-statistical methods to genetic epidemiology research, models correlated data structures, gene mapping, causal pathway modeling, spatial analysis, and genetic association analysis.
Required Skills and Expertise:
· A minimum of a Masters degree in biostatistics
· Two to five years experience in database management and data analysis
· Experience with statistical methods commonly used in health research (e.g. survival analyses, logistic regression, prognostic model development and validation, and multilevel modeling)
· Experience in genome-association analysis.
· Fluency in writing SAS and S-Plus/R code.
Experience with confounder analysis, cohort studies.
