Function

Carry out a wide range of computational genetics duties with minimum supervision. Help in the technological genomic instruments’ operating software trouble shooting and utility.  Support analyzing & interpreting sequencing genotyping of complex diseases and rare diseases informatics. Help in preparation of summaries for data analysis and contributes to writing, evaluating and discussing the results.

Responsibilities

Specific Duties:

  1. Establish the standard operating procedures for the computational part of the genome centre equipments, and the use of their applications and system software leading to pipeline modules buildup and maintenance in close liaising with the integrative health informatics team.
  2. Handle and maintain up-to-date systems software across different genomic technological platforms such as Illumina and ABI, and to build systems for output data quality control and export/data deposition into servers.

 

Other Key Responsibilities:

  1. Fundamental computational & statistical analysis of high throughput data relating to genome-wide disease association studies and human population genomics.
  2. Fluency with genome databases and biological & statistical software packages (such as gene annotation programs, Genomatix, R and Plink).
  3. Correlating the identified genetic variants with the biological and regulatory pathways.
  4. Provide access and utility of necessary genomic networks and metabolic pathway databases.
  5. Participate in the preparations of manuscripts, presentations, and other documentations.
  6. Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills and Expertise:

Master degree or equivalent in Computational Genomics/Bioinformatics or related fields such as mathematics & statistics with experience in computational genomics, and an undergraduate degree in biological sciences. Knowledge in bioinformatics programming (Java, Perl, C, BioPerl in Unix/Linux environment), in addition to programming ability to handle/implement and access these resources. The successful candidate is expected to have gained 2-3 years of bioinformatics work experience as evidenced by contributions to developing bioinformatics products in the domain of genetics and genomics.  Prior experience in next generation sequencing and genome wide association studies are a plus.
